[ Sep 13, 2008 ] Play Big or Go Home: Why your business model stinks and what you can do about it with Bill Marvin, The Restaurant Doctor - New speakers try to emulate more experienced colleagues, never realizing these old pros have been making it up all along! They succeeded, but few made the lasting impacts they could ... or should. They just make a decent living.
On September 13, our resident renegade, Past President Bill Marvin (The Restaurant Doctor) will help you discover what you want to do with the rest of your life. He will challenge experienced speakers to stop dialing for dollars and play a different, much larger game. He will help ‘newbies’ see how they can rock the world without a killer speech, signature story, demo video or a one-sheet ... and without enduring endless Rotary Club luncheons!
Rather than explore better ways to do what you are already doing, you will reflect on whether you are doing the right things in the first place. Bill will help you see how a simple shift – one you never even considered – will put you completely in charge of your life and have people calling you for a change. You will either be excited beyond measure or scared to death – probably both – but we promise you will leave a different person.
This session is just the latest chapter in an interesting evolution. Not knowing that it was supposed to be impossible, Bill was already speaking full time when he first came to NSA. Despite a full calendar and a six-figure income, he finally figured out that being a full-time speaker was probably the worst business model ever invented because you were perpetually unemployed and there was no real equity – you had a cash flow but certainly not a business.
So he reduced his emphasis on speaking, created an impressive array of products, developed a healthy list of paying subscribers and soon most of his money was showing up in the mailbox. His income increased, he spent less time on airplanes and life was good ... but something was still not right.
So he followed Dan Kennedy around for a few years and learned how to promote his own “big pay day” events. His income increased again ... until one day the thought of flogging his database to fill yet another seat at yet another conference depressed him beyond measure. Selling another seminar, no matter how powerful the subject matter or how lucrative the program, was a struggle he just had no heart for. Again, he felt his business model was lacking ... but lacking what?
The “what” he discovered – the shift that truly changed everything – is the topic Bill will present on September 13. Whether you are new to the speaking game or a seasoned veteran, there is something here that you will find intensely personal, a blessed relief and ... dare we say it ... life-changing.
Before you waste another minute (or another thousand dollars) to improve the wrong skills, you owe it to yourself to come to this politically-incorrect session and explore the possibilities that Bill will present.
For our Saturday Workshops, which are open to everyone, we meet at the Coast Bellevue Hotel.
Our In-Home Work Sessions take place at various locations: Members' homes, the Community Center at Mercer View, and the South Bellevue Community Center. These meetings are limited to Members, Affliates, and Vendor Partners. No Guests, please.
Our Summer Nights at the Movies in August, which also take place in Members' homes, are open to everyone.
We also have fun, too! Our Annual Barbecue in July and Holiday Party in December (both for Members, Affiliates, Vendor Partners, and their families) give us a chance to relax and enjoy each other's company.
